Leaving the Army to marry her first husband in 1992, Giles Sanderson, who aptly proposed to her on the Par 5, 16th hole on St Enodoc golf course, opposite Padstow, Cornwall. With its stunning romantic vistas out to sea she was willing to embark on a more conventional life in London.
Working at Christie’s Auction House in King Street, for several years acted as an antidote to military life, then studying in Chelsea at Heatherley’s School of Fine Art for a Diploma in Portraiture reinforced her commitment to develop a professional career in Art, supported by Giles.
By 1999 and the couple unable to have children, Sarah was re-evaluating her life and sadly, yet amicably she and Giles parted - they even won a top amateur golf tournament as playing partners in the summer after they divorced.
